Who are we?

New Story Church exists to make more and better followers of Jesus.

New Story Church exists to make more and better followers of Jesus (Acts 16:5). We are a dedicated and generous church family of about 100 people that are focused on helping people know that no matter who they are or where they’ve been, there’s hope for a new story in Jesus. We are on average, a middle age congregation with a thriving kids and student ministry.

Starting as Oak Grove Baptist Church in 1954, the church has always been committed to making heaven more crowded. Over the years since, the church has adapted methodology with the changing culture to continue to have an impact with those that are unchurched. With contemporary music and teaching styles, we seek to execute our services and programs with excellence in a way that would engage all from pre-K up to our eldest owners. We provide relaxed environments that motivate and challenge all who attend in their spiritual journey. While much has changed in the way of our methods, we remain dedicated to Scripture as the ultimate authority to inform our every decision. We desire to be a theologically conservative, technologically liberal, mind blowingly creative, outrageously generous, spiritually alive church that keeps pushing back darkness in our world.

We desire to be a theologically conservative, technologically liberal, mind blowingly creative, outrageously generous, spiritually alive church that keeps pushing back darkness in our world.

We are ferociously dedicated to local missions. We strive to be a faithful presence in our community and have garnered a favorable reputation amongst the people, schools, and organizations within Turner. Through what we call our Community Care Team, we are actively participating in the justice of the King from the womb to the tomb as we feed, clothe, and financially support those in our community on a weekly basis. We provide opportunities and encourage our church towards serving not just inside our walls, but outside. Making this world look as much like heaven as possible is a mandate that we walk in and long to be faithful to.

Making this world look as much like heaven as possible is a mandate that we walk in and long to be faithful to.

At the beginning of 2022 our lead pastor of 16 years announced that he was following God’s lead to a church on the east coast and moved that Summer. Over this time, the church rallied as we prayed and asked God to show us what was next. The church banded together in encouraging displays of unity as we took steps toward where God was taking us. A unanimously approved Constitution, a new flourishing Deacon ministry, and the establishment of a healthy leadership structure were all paramount to get us to where we are now.

We truly believe that the best is yet to come for New Story Church as we continue to make more and better followers of Jesus in Turner and beyond.

Where are we?

New Story Church is settled in the heart of Turner, a family oriented neighborhood within Kansas City, Kansas. With a diverse population of roughly 24,000 people, Turner has its own school district that is nearly 70% minority enrollment – most of which have hispanic heritage. Being just a few minutes from two major interstates, it’s easy to move about the city. It gives a rural feel in an otherwise urban environment. Kansas City more broadly has been rightly described as too much city for one state, and we agree! With a population of just over half a million, KC is the 36th most-populous city in the United States. From the barbecue to the fountains and the championship winning sports teams, Kansas City loves Kansas City. It boasts good schools, cultural amenities, and affordable living with a friendly, easy-going, forward-thinking community. Even if you don’t live in Kansas City, it’s worth the visit!
